Jersey to London | British Airways Club Europe

Most visits to the island of Jersey likely conclude at Jersey Airport, located on the west side of the island near St Brelade. With multiple flights each day connecting the island with mainland Britain, there is no shortage of options to choose from when planning your way home.

British Airways Club Europe offers one of the most considered ways of travelling between Jersey and London Heathrow. With a scheduled flight time of 1 hour and 10 minutes, and an actual flight time of around 35 minutes depending on traffic approaching London, this is a route where high-level service and attention from the crew are even more important than normal to justify the higher cabin.

As the average passenger will spend more time in the airport than in the air on this route, the ground experience, including the lounge, plays a greater role than usual in defining the overall experience. The newly opened No1 Lounge, located on the first floor with panoramic views of the apron and runway, is key to this experience and offering.

Who this Edit is for

This Edit is for those who wish to travel with added comfort and elevated service both in the air and on the ground. Flying from Jersey can be seen simply as a means of getting home, however, when approached as an extension of the trip until you arrive in London, it can ultimately make the experience last that little bit longer.

This Edit covers all aspects of the journey and experience, from check-in at Jersey to those final moments after landing into Heathrow. Knowing what to expect before booking and travelling removes the guesswork and manages expectations ahead of time.

The Standard

Every recommendation in this Edit is assessed against the same five points: service, design, food and drink, atmosphere and value. Value is not about cheap or expensive. It is whether the experience earns the time and price invested.

Check-in

Jersey Airport is currently undergoing a period of transformation, however the full check-in area within the departures hall is yet to see the benefits of this transformation. British Airways, however, does occupy its own area to the left of the check-in hall, with several dedicated desks in use throughout the day for the various departures. During the quieter parts of the day, the check-in desks open around two hours before the scheduled departure time, so bear this in mind when planning your arrival at the airport.

Club Europe passengers have access to Club check-in desks, which are located to the left of the desks allocated to British Airways. These desks are accessed via a separate dedicated queue and, depending on the time of day, the queue usually moves quickly. Travelling during peak holiday periods may have an impact on these wait times.

P&M tip: As a Club Europe passenger, you are permitted to check in two suitcases weighing up to 32kg per bag. This may not be required if travelling for just a short period, however it is very useful should it be required.

Security

Club Europe passengers have access to Fast Track security at Jersey Airport. Security is one area currently facing the biggest upheaval as a result of the airport upgrade works. The security screening area is currently located within what was once the check-in area, however the airport has taken care to utilise the space in a way that minimises disruption to passengers as much as possible.

Whilst liquids can remain in your luggage during screening, there is a limit of 100ml per liquid item as of May 2026. Hopefully, once the upgrade works have concluded, this restriction will be relaxed. The staff are pleasant and are keen to ensure the experience remains as efficient as possible.

No1 Lounge

The airside area beyond security is also currently undergoing upgrade works and there are limited dining and shopping options at present. However, the No1 Lounge, located on the first floor above the main departures hall, is a space that has been finished to the highest possible standard. British Airways Club Europe passengers have access to this lounge as part of their ticket and simply presenting your boarding pass at the reception desk will admit you. The lounge can be accessed via stairs next to the World Duty Free shop or by lift should it be required.

What is immediately impressive about this lounge is the large panoramic windows, which look out onto the apron and westerly part of the runway. On a clear day, it is even possible to see over towards Guernsey from your seat if seated near the window. Aside from the views, the windows flood the space with natural light, which can more often than not be a rarity for airport lounges.

The design of the seating area within the Orangery is modern and clean, and very much in keeping with the ecosystem the lounge creates with lush greenery. There is a large bar area in the central part of the lounge towards the back, which is well considered, and the buffet area is located beside the bar to the left in its own dedicated area. There is also a quieter TV lounge separated from the main part of the lounge, which is ideal for working from and provides more privacy than the other areas. Individual toilets are located behind the bar to the right-hand side and are finished to a very high standard.

The food and drink offering is what adds the most value to this lounge experience. Depending on the time of day of your visit, both hot and cold food offerings are available within the buffet area. During this visit, it was late afternoon and numerous hot dishes, including curry and pasta dishes, were available. It is not chef-led food, however it is more than adequate for food served in an airport lounge. A small selection of sweet options is also available to complement the offering.

There is no self-service bar in the lounge. Instead, passengers can order drinks from the tended bar. Having a bartender allows the lounge to offer a wider selection of beverages, including some signature spritz cocktails.

The location of the lounge brings the added benefit of being able to see the runway and when your aircraft pulls into the stand, which allows you to manage your journey to the boarding gate ahead of departure. If the other airport upgrades are finished to as high a standard as this lounge, locals and visitors alike will have much to look forward to.

Boarding

Boarding your flight at Jersey is a little different to what you may have previously experienced at other airports. Due to the current layout of the gate area, specific gates for departing flights are only announced close to when boarding commences. There are benefits to this, as it avoids lengthy waits at the gate before boarding.

Club Europe passengers are allocated boarding group 1, which means they are some of the first passengers to board. At Jersey, this involved being placed in a designated boarding area separated from higher group numbers.

Boarding the aircraft in Jersey does involve boarding via stairs or an elevated platform. There are no direct bridges to the aircraft at Jersey. You may wish to consider this in advance to ensure you have appropriate outerwear for the time of year you are travelling.

On board

Once on board the aircraft, you are immediately greeted by the cabin crew at the front door. The Club Europe cabin is located at the front and can vary in size depending on load factors, however you should usually not expect anything smaller than three or four rows, especially on the Jersey route.

The layout of the Club Europe cabin is two plus two across each row. The seats are standard Euro-business style seats with the middle seat blocked out for personal space and extra seat pitch compared to Euro Traveller.

The overhead lockers in Club Europe are reserved for passengers in the cabin and additional storage under the unused middle seat can be utilised for smaller personal items, leaving the space by your feet free. During busier flights, overhead locker space can be limited, even in Club Europe, so plan ahead and pack efficiently to avoid unnecessary stress on board.

Inflight Service

The service offered in Club Europe on this flight is impressive given the short time the aircraft is actually in the air. Almost immediately after wheels are up, the inflight lead offers an introduction to the service to be expected on board. In Club Europe, a light meal is served alongside complimentary drinks from the bar. On this particular flight, there were eight rows to be served, therefore two additional crew members provided service in addition to the lead.

The service started with what felt like immediate effect after the coastline of Jersey vanished from sight. On this flight, drinks and the meal were served from the trolley. Champagne, wine and a selection of spirits were on offer. The meal offering was smoked salmon roulade served with slaw and a lemon wedge. A warm bread roll was also offered and, for dessert, mango panna cotta. A vegetarian option was also available upon request.

Whilst this meal is small in comparison to what British Airways serves on other European routes, it was more than adequate for a 35-minute flight. A top-up of drinks was offered following the conclusion of the meal service, which goes to show the speed at which the crew were able to deliver the service on this flight.

Arrival into Heathrow

Not long after all the meal trays were cleared, the crew were given the signal for 10 minutes to landing and before long we were on final approach to Heathrow, flying over what must be one of the most spectacular city approaches.

Flights from Jersey arrive into Terminal 5, the home of British Airways. As this flight was also from within the Common Travel Area, this meant we parked at a gate which provided direct access to the baggage hall, bypassing immigration controls.

The wait for luggage to arrive at the carousel can at times be long at Terminal 5, however, on this occasion, the first bags arrived around 15 minutes after the doors of the aircraft were opened, making for a quick exit from the airport.

How to plan this itinerary

Planning your flights to and from Jersey should very much depend on your travel plans whilst visiting the island. British Airways has numerous departures each day between both London Gatwick, London Heathrow and Jersey.

Due to the location of Jersey Airport on the west side of the island, St Helier and surrounding areas are about 30 minutes from the airport, therefore early morning departures are best avoided.

Pre-arranging your transport to the airport ahead of your flight is recommended for early morning or late evening departures to ensure a smoother experience.

If you are travelling with others or prefer a window or aisle seat specifically, it is best to book your flight and select your seat early, as the Club Europe cabins do tend to be busy on this route. British Airways charges for seat selection in advance, unless you have relevant British Airways Club or Oneworld Elite status.

P&M Note

British Airways flights from London Gatwick are operated by BA Euroflyer, a subsidiary of the main airline. The look and feel of the cabin and service on board should be consistent with that of the mainline airline, however it is important to note that different caterers provide the meals for flights to and from Gatwick. This is, however, no less of an experience than what is served on flights to and from Heathrow.

Final thoughts

British Airways Club Europe from Jersey to London is a short flight, but one where the details of the experience matter. With more time spent on the ground than in the air, the check-in process, Fast Track security and the No1 Lounge all play an important role in the overall journey.

The lounge provides a proper place to relax before departure, whilst the on board service is delivered with professionalism and attention to make the short flight feel considered rather than rushed.

For those planning a wider trip to the island, this flight works best when viewed as part of the overall Jersey experience, not simply a way home.
