Our approach

The P&M
Editorial Standard.

Considered judgement and practical detail to help you decide what to book and what to expect.

Every recommendation is considered against five points: service, design, food and drink, atmosphere and value. Together, they help explain who a place suits and whether it earns the time and price involved.

What we consider.

Service
How well guests are looked after, from the welcome to the details that make a stay or meal run smoothly. Good service should suit the setting.
Design
The character of a place alongside its comfort and practicality. We consider how the setting contributes to the experience, from a hotel room to a restaurant table.
Food & drink
What is served, how well it is prepared and how it fits the occasion. The food and drink should give a clear reason to book or order.
Atmosphere
How it feels to spend time somewhere, including the setting, the pace and the level of activity. We consider the kind of occasion a place suits.
Value
Whether the experience earns the money and time involved. The question is what a place delivers for its price and who will get the most from it.

Independence & transparency

Our opinions
remain our own.

Editorial judgement remains independent. Hosted stays, invitations and paid partnerships are disclosed, and a commercial relationship does not determine our recommendation.

Some articles include affiliate links, which may earn P&M a commission if you book or buy through them. These are identified in the content. Advertising sits separately from independent coverage.

Details such as menus, prices and opening hours can change. Please confirm anything essential to your booking directly with the venue or provider. If you notice an error or have a question about our coverage, get in touch.
